a bit about me...
Born and raised in Hawaii, I have always enjoyed spending just as much time outdoors as indoors. Creating and designing interiors came naturally and many weekends were spent rearranging the furniture in my childhood home. When it came time to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, interior design became the obvious choice.
In my first year of college, I became aware of my love for not only interiors but for the built environment as a whole. It was a happy accident that the college I had chosen to attend had a program that focused not just on interior design, but also interior architecture. Being able to manipulate spaces on a three dimensional level added a whole new challenge to the world of design. Color, texture, and functionality all still included.
Upon completing my degree in Interior Architecture, I moved from Oregon to Southern California. I started my career in the model home industry as an Accessory Designer (think art, home decor and plants) and then transitioned to be a Designer. Quick time frames, tight budgets, and the ability to explore different color schemes as well as design styles proved to be invaluable experience.
When it came time for a change, I focused my search to high-end residential design, realizing that one of the things that was missing from the model home world, was the client. Creating spaces for people to live in and enjoy is one of the most rewarding parts of being an interior designer. The challenges are greater but the reward is truly incomparable and unique.
With a diverse array of job experience under my belt, I turned my attention
to the challenge of becoming a certified interior designer. In October, 2009
after two years of studying and testing, I successfully passed the
National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) test.
I continue to explore the vast world of design and am constantly looking for other creative outlets. My most recent venture being into the world of floral design. I am fascinated at how the principles of design can translate to so many different mediums. In exploring other creative outlets, I am constantly learning and growing as a designer. Each avenue of design that I explore influences my other creative endeavors and I hope creates the well rounded designer within me.
